As the Study Association for European Studies at the UvA, we work very closely with the faculty and the staff of the university. Without the university's help we would not be able to provide you with all the fun and educational events we do, so do not hesitate to show some gratitude to the university every now and then!
The Amsterdam University Fund provides crucial support for UvA’s research facilities, educational initiatives and world-class heritage collections. Over the years, the fund has sponsored essential research and spearheaded the preservation and conservation of the UvA’s treasured Special Collections: from Egyptian antiquities and medieval manuscripts to cookery books and comics.
For SES, they provide generous funding to make our yearly Study Trip possible.
ASVA
ASVA is a Student Union and is the biggest student organisation in Amsterdam. As such, we work very closely with them in order to protect our members and their interests. You can visit their student desk at CREA at the Roeterseiland Campus and ask all your questions about student life. They can also offer free legal help for things such as student finance and housing issues.
Can't Dutch This
Can't Dutch This offers affordable Dutch language courses for students and expats. During this 10-week long course with weekly 2 hour classes, you will learn essential reading, writing and speaking skills which you will practice in public by going on 2 fun offline excursions, such as ice-skating and visiting a museum!
Athenaeum Boekhandel
Athenaeum is a bookshop that we've partnered with in order to be able to provide our members a cheaper way to get their study related books. The discount amounts to 15% for study related books and 10% for non-study related books. The book discount code will be shared via our SES alerts WhatsApp group chat, as well as in the confirmation email for every new SES member. Don't forget that you can pick up your books at Athenaeum itself and not at the SES office!
IELTS
In collaboration with Cambridge Assessment, the British Council and IDP, we provide IELTS examinations in the Netherlands at our test centre in Rotterdam. IELTS is an essential qualification for studying abroad and is recognised by governments, educational institutions and international corporations worldwide. Having this certificate provides access to a global network of educational specialists and professionals in your field. We can also prepare you for the exam with one of our courses.
